As we all know purchasing a new home is most likely the single biggest purchase most of us will make in our lifetimes. What we need to remember is this major purchase affects everyone living in this home. Whether you have little ones, teens, or maybe seniors all need to be considered.
While many decisions need to be made…big and small… Having each person involved can be fun and a great way to build excitement for an upcoming move. Everyone has dreams. Ask individuals what is their wish. Not only will you be surprised at the answers, but it will also be a huge help in creating a “Plan” along with a “Dream Board” for your future home.
Creating your “Dream Board” is simple and cheap. Once you’ve gathered your supplies let the creativity begin. Cut out anything that piques your interest from magazines or copy photos that are online. Dream beyond furniture and décor think about attractive community characteristics… good schools, driving time to work, convenient shopping. Are there certain neighborhoods within the community that you like? Children can be involved by searching for nearby activities such as parks, playgrounds, soccer and baseball fields, and of course dance studios for the future ballerina. If you have a senior living with you have them look for senior centers and other activities that are close by.
How many bedrooms and baths are a given but give thought to what other rooms are important. Do you need formal rooms or is your style casual? Do you dream of an open floor plan where everyone gathers? Don’t forget the yard… are you a gardener? Is there a pool in your dream? The list goes on and on,
Once you have the cutouts, get a poster board and place them in a way that makes sense to you. When you find a layout you like, glue all of the pieces down and use markers for labels and notes. Having this visual will be such a help no matter what the age.
